Lurian Kabbalah
August 2024

In this lecture, we delve into Lurianic Kabbalah, developed by Rabbi Isaac Luria in the 16th century, and its profound impact on psychotherapy. This includes tzimtzum (God’s self-limitation), sefirot (scattering of divine light into vessels), and tikkun (process of repairing to achieve wholeness). We will also explore its relevance to modern therapeutic practices.

  • Freudian theory parallels Lurianic Kabbalah by comparing the libido to divine light within the id, ego, and superego.

  • Conflicts within these structures, termed tzimtum, fragment ideas and emotions from the personality.

  • Therapy aims to resolve these conflicts, integrating fragmented memories and emotions to promote psychological well-being and wholeness.

Lurianic Kabbalah promotes active client-therapist collaboration to restore harmony and integrate the fragmented self, significantly enhancing counseling and psychotherapy for holistic healing and well-being.

Shadow Enmeshment
July 2024

The shadow, like a companion, walks with us, often unnoticed until we acknowledge its presence. This session is about exploring the shadow within us that we are unaware of some beneficial and some harmful, shaping our action without conciousness.

Shadow Enmeshment will make us understand:

  • Origin of and impact our own shadows, where do they arise from.

  • Exploring types of shadows.

  • Why the intrusive thoughts are born?

  • Unconsciousness behaviour leading to our day to day actions.

  • Unexplored capabilities within ourselves.

The enmeshment of the shadow within us transcends time, space, behaviors, identities, capabilities, and environments, impacting our relationships and well-being. If we don't integrate these dark sides of our life, we end up in psychological projections.

Through this reading group, various cases and examples will be examined to understand the concept of shadow and the necessity of addressing and working through its complexities.

Psyche & The Soul
June 2024

This lecture is about re-visioning and finding that component of psychology called the ‘soul’.

By soul, I mean:

  • a perspective rather than a substance.

  • a viewpoint towards things rather than the thing itself.

  • the deepening of the events into experiences.

  • what derives from love or religion, our special relation with death.

  • the imaginative possibility of our nature.

Whatever is the definition of the soul, its not universal because each of us will bring to the field who we are before we bring our perspective and that is governed by our fears , our openness, our suppressed selves, our repressed selves, the dark side, the opportunities, the possibilities and our point of views.

This lecture is an invitation to look at those viewpoints and to be able to understand where it is coming from.

Transference and Counter Transference
Feb 2024

Transference and countertransference are complex psychological processes that occur in client-therapist relationships. Transference involves projecting feelings, expectations, or roles onto the client, while countertransference is the therapist's response to the client's transference.

This lecture explains us that:

  • Transference is when the client sees the therapist as someone else, leading to unconscious role assumptions and emotional triggers.

  • Countertransference occurs when the therapist's reactions are influenced by the client's transference, potentially affecting the therapeutic process.

  • Both transference and countertransference can hinder therapy progress and create resistance.

  • It is essential for therapists to engage in self-work to recognize and manage their own triggers and responses.

  • Building healthier relationships with clear boundaries, assertive communication, and mutual respect can help navigate transference and countertransference dynamics.

Overall, awareness of these processes and a commitment to personal growth are crucial in fostering effective and ethical client-therapist relationship.

Toxic Shame and Guilt
Jan 2023

There was a rich Count who loved a very beautiful but poor young girl so much that he married her, but afterward, when he had to go away and take part in a war, he put the Countess, who was pregnant, under the care of the butler who was to look after her. But the butler fell in love with her and tried to seduce her; she refused him, and he was so angry that when she gave birth to two children he decided to slander her. The twin children were a boy and a girl and on the forehead of each was a beautiful star. The butler wrote to the Count saying that he had thought for a long time that the Countess had had an affair with a Negro but now it had become quite clear that this was so because she had given birth to two half-Negro children.
